According to a recent study, the more time people use the Internet, the less time they spend with people. Some people say that instead of seeing the Internet as a way of developing new communication possibilities world- wide, we should be concerned about the effect it is having on social interaction. How far do you agree with this opinion?

Nowadays, people spend amount of time on the Internet, and thus spending less time communicating with people. Although I agree that the Internet has increased the way of communication, it has also had negative effects on social interaction.

There are many benefits using the internet to communicate with people all a around world. In the past, people can only communicate by telephone and mail and it’s slow and expensive. With the internet, the speed of its has increased dramatically. Email and social networking sites such as Facebook ,Twitter,and WeChat have created a platform for online communication. It is very popular in the world because it can communicate with people faster and more efficiently.

While the internet brings people benefits, it also has negative on online communication.

Firstly, the internet on social interaction can make people to dehumanize for the benefit of the company. For example, last November, Facebook billionaire cofounder Sean Parker took sides against the social networking giant when he admitted he and Zuck had made their billions by "exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology.”  secondly, it can cause mental illness by the internet. Such as Facebook Depression ,a University of Michigan study shows that depression among young people directly corresponds to the amount of time they spend on Facebook because people tend to post only good news about themselves on Facebook: Vacations, promotions, party pics, etc. So, many people believe that others are happier than themselves.  finally, many anti-social behaviors has had a negative impact on internet on social interaction. For instant, the use of Internet to carry out illegal activities such as selling faked products or offensive pornographic materials;  the use of Internet to bully others; the use of Internet to cheat others, and the use of Internet to do illegal gambling. 

To conclude, the internet has more beneficial to communication, but it has resulted in negative consequences for human interaction such as loss of humanity, mental illnesses and anti-social behavior.
