Academic Lecture by xuanyan lin
Academic lectures are different from everyday
conversation because of three reasons, language, interaction, and expectation. Firstly,
there is no doubt that the lecture is a formal situation, but everyday
conversation is informal. Speaker uses jargon words in a lecture, and people
use general words in daily conversation. Secondly, the lecture is
unidirectional, and everyday conversation is bidirectional. That means the
lecture has one direct and everyday conversation has two directs. Moreover, the
lecture always have a long time, and the speaker can not control, but in daily
conversation, it is broken, and participants can repeat many times. Finally,
the listener needs to take notes when in a lecture but do not needs to do this
in everyday conversation.
