Academic lecture(Kelly_KyeongMi)
There are three aspects between lecture listening and everyday
conversation. The major differences between lecture and everyday conversation
are language, interaction, and expectation. In these three aspects, it can be
seen that listening skills are much more difficult than everyday conversation
skills.
The first of all, language is difference. The language used in the
lecture uses most formal and professional terms like jargon. On the other hand,
the language used in everyday conversation is simple and comfortable to use for
everyone.
The second difference is interaction. The lecture focuses on giving knowledge,
so listener has no control even though a speaker talks continuously for a long
time. In contrast, everyday conversations can interact with each other.
Finally, expectation is different between a lecturer situation and
everyday listening situation. In everyday conversation, taking notes is not
necessary when listening to lectures, but immediate response is needed.
