Academic lectures (Vivian)

Academic lectures are different from everyday conversation because they are difficult to understand. There are three ideas include in the following paragraphs to express why academic lectures is different from daily conversations.

First of all, the language is different between academic lectures and everyday conversation. For example, academic lectures are very formal and they usually include academic vocabulary. They always contain the different jargon and technical words, so it is easy to makes people hard to focus on them. On the contrary, daily conversation is informal and general because they talk about our daily lives and easy to understand.

Secondly, the interaction is different in these two types of communication. As for academic lectures, they usually unidirectional while everyday conversation is bidirectional. Academic lectures cannot control easily and no turn taking. Lecturers can give a speech continuously, so it means audiences are requested to concentrate on the lectures.

Furthermore, the expectation is different. Academic lectures need audience to take notes because it transfer a large amount of information to people, and they are easy to forget them. In contrast, everyday conversation just need people to give reaction in a few minutes and there is no note-taking.

In conclusion, academic lectures is different from everyday conversation because its language, interaction and expectation.
